Alltel Wireless, a US mobile broadband operator, has upgraded its network to provide Evolution Data Optimised Revision A coverage in the Cleveland, Akron and Canton areas of the State of Ohio, US. Revision A increases data transfer rates on the EDVO network by up to 10 times, allowing maximum download speeds of 3.1Mb/s with average download speeds of between 600kb/s and 1.4Mb/s. Average speeds on the pre-existing network were 50-70kb/s. Upload speeds are likewise increased by the same factor with a maximum achievable rate of 1.8Mb/s and average speeds of 500-800kb/s. Users wishing to upgrade to the newer service must have a wireless modem compatible with the EVDO Rev. A standard. AllTel's EVDO network remains in service and both types of EVDO access are available from Alltel for USD59.99 per month. Customers do not need an Alltel voice plan to purchase wireless broadband access.
